Riceland Foods recorded sales of more than $1 billion for the ninth consecutive year, Danny Kennedy, president and chief executive officer, announced at the farmer-owned cooperative’s annual meeting held at Arkansas State University’s Convocation Center Thursday.
Riceland presented its “Friend of the Farmer” award to Arkansas Senator John Boozman for his work on behalf of the state’s farm community.
In making the announcement, Bill Reed, senior vice president for public affairs, said, “Every time we have called on Senator Boozman to help with a rice issue in Washington, he has stood up for Arkansas rice.”
He praised Boozman for his efforts to include the Price Loss Coverage provision of the 2014 farm bill which has helped rice farmers during the current period of low prices. He also referenced the senator’s efforts on opening trade with Cuba, encouraging Iraq to buy U.S. rice, efforts to improve rice trade as part of the Trans Pacific Partnership and increased use of U.S. rice in the government’s food aid programs.
